How to Play Unlimited Krillion
Unlimited Krillion is a rare-answer trivia game. You get an open prompt, you type one answer, and the less obvious your valid answer is, the deeper you dive. These are the rules and the habits that help.
The rules
- Read the prompt. Every prompt starts with "Name a..." and has a closed set of valid answers, such as "Name a US state".
- You get about two seconds of preview, then a 25-second timer starts with a ring that drains as time passes.
- Type one answer and press Enter. You only get one submission per prompt. Empty or timed-out prompts score zero.
- See the result. You are shown the answer we matched, its tier, your points, and a list of every accepted answer grouped by depth.
- Finish seven prompts for your total depth. Points are multiplied by ten, so 700 points is 7,000 metres.
Scoring by tier
Each answer lives in one of five zones, named after the layers of the ocean. Rarer zones are worth more.
| Tier | Points | Depth | What lives here |
|---|---|---|---|
| Surface | 10 | 100 m | The answers nearly everyone blurts out first. |
| Reef | 30 | 300 m | Familiar to most people, just not the first thing they say. |
| Twilight | 60 | 600 m | Known to fans and the genuinely curious. |
| Midnight | 85 | 850 m | Specialist knowledge. Hobbyists, locals and experts. |
| Abyss | 100 | 1,000 m | Real, checkable answers almost nobody would think of. |
The most you can score in one dive is 700 points (7,000 metres), which means finding an Abyss answer on all seven prompts. Nobody does that by accident.
How matching works
- Capitalisation, accents, apostrophes and punctuation are ignored. "Cote d'Ivoire" and "Cรดte dโIvoire" are the same answer.
- A leading "the", "a" or "an" does not matter, and simple plurals are accepted either way.
- Alternate names count where we know them, for example "Ivory Coast", "USA" or "Courgette".
- Longer answers tolerate small typos. Answers of five to eight letters allow one wrong letter, and nine or more allow two. Very short answers must be exact.
- Only one answer is read. If you type a list, it will be treated as one very long answer.
Tips for finding rare answers
- Skip the first thing you think of. Everybody's first answer is the same. Treat it as a warm-up and keep digging.
- Pick a sub-category. For "Name a bird", walk through water birds, birds of prey, then tropical species rather than staring at the whole list.
- Use places you know. Your home region, your holidays and your hobbies are full of answers that other people never reach.
- Think about the edges of the set. The newest, oldest, smallest and most specialised members of any list usually sit near the bottom of the ocean.
- Prefer a sure thing to a wild guess. A confident Reef answer beats a Midnight answer you spell wrongly or are unsure belongs.
- Read the reveal. Open "See all answers" after every prompt. That list is where you learn the next layer.
Modes
- Unlimited Dive: seven random prompts across all topics, repeatable as often as you like.
- Endless Descent: one prompt at a time with three air tanks. Misses cost air, Abyss answers refill it.
- Topic packs: the same dive restricted to a single subject.
- Rare Hunt: seven prompts scored by how many Abyss answers you find.
